About bills
Bills are proposed changes to the law, and must each pass through several stages in Parliament before becoming law.
Before any bill becomes law, there are three main votes it must pass: the first, second and third readings. For most bills, there is a chance for members of the public to make submissions at the select committee stage, which happens between the first and second readings.
After a bill passes its third reading vote, it is granted Royal Assent by the Governor-General and becomes law, subject to any commencement provisions contained within the bill.

Parole (Extended Supervision Orders) Amendment Bill
This bill proposes amendments to the Parole Act 2002 to enable extended supervision orders to be renewed as often as they are needed, and expand the scope of these orders beyond high-risk child sex offenders to include high-risk sex offenders and very high-risk violent offenders.
Legislation Amendment Bill
This bill is intended to re-enact the Interpretation Act 1999 in the Legislation Act 2012 and improve the interpretation rules, increase the availability of information about the development and content of new Government-initiated legislation, and update the Legislation Act 2012 to take into account disclosure statements and the status of official electronic versions of legislation.

Land Transport (Clean Vehicles) Amendment Bill
The single broad policy of this omnibus bill is to achieve a rapid reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from light vehicles imported into New Zealand by increasing the supply and variety of zero- and low-emissions vehicles, increasing the demand for zero- and low-emissions vehicles, and informing New Zealanders about vehicle emissions levels and rebates receivable or charges payable in relation to light vehicles.

The purpose of this bill is to extend paid parental leave to 26 weeks.

This bill introduces amendments to the Income Tax Act 2007, and the Tax Administration Act 1994, and proposes measures to counter the particular Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) strategies observed in New Zealand.

The intention of this bill is to improve the protection of individual rights and the safety of patients and the public, and to enable a more effective application of the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992.
Electoral Amendment Bill
This bill amends the Electoral Act 1993 and the Electoral Regulations 1996 to improve enrolment and voting processes to better enfranchise voters, uphold the integrity of the electoral system by ensuring that elections are conducted efficiently and securely, and support the effective conduct of future elections.

This bill replaces the Protected Disclosures Act 2000. Racing Amendment Bill
This bill seeks to amend the Racing Act 2003 to implement a range of provisions that are designed to improve the competiveness of the New Zealand Racing Board's betting operations, introduce new requirements on offshore betting operators, and provide for regulations on revising the formula for allocating proceeds from sports betting between the racing and sports sectors.

This bill amends and updates Part 6 of the Broadcasting Act 1989, which regulates election programmes on television and radio, to enable political parties to communicate with voters through digital media more flexibly and cost-effectively, while maintaining existing safeguards and restrictions.
